Roy Philp Jr., author of “The Hoot Owl Man,” was the guest speaker Jan. 19 at the Grand Saline Public Library

Set in East Texas, the book tells the story of David and his son, Matthew,  who are on a campout when they discover an unconscious girl in a canoe floating down the river. The girl, Molly, awakens and quickly mesmerizes David and Matthew with her “zest and pizzazz.”

Philp is a retired pharmacist living in Beaumont. He has three children and five grandchildren. His grandfather’s storytelling was one of his inspirations.
