Principal Don Layton, Rose Scott and Gary Vawter.

In late December 2016, the Van Zandt News ran a series of articles called, “I survived,” a story about a young girl named Rose who lived through the terrors of Nazi-occupied Vienna, Austria. Gary Vawter took Rose’s memoirs and complied them into a book.

Rose Scott and Gary Vawter visited Martins Mill ISD and presented the book to the school’s library. Lola House and Mikayla Martin represented the district and accepted the book to add to the school’s collection.
