Blackwell House Museum to hold Christmas Open House

A Christmas Open House, hosted by the Canton Museum Board of Directors, is planned at the Blackwell House to be held from 3-6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 7.

The house is located at 315 First Monday Lane (Farm to Market Road 853) next to the Van Zandt County Library.

“The tree is trimmed; special Christmas decorations are in place and refreshments will be served to welcome one and all.  You are invited to stop by to tour the house, enjoy the lovely Christmas décor, visit with members of the Museum Board and enjoy a Christmas cookie or two,” said Donna Rakestraw, president of the Canton Museum Board. “The Blackwell House is the oldest home in Canton today and contains many of the original furnishings.   An added feature this year is a family tree in the grand hallway with photos of the family.”

Built in 1886, by Henry Fischer Blackwell II for his bride Nannie Jane Bartlett, the house was presented to the City of Canton in 1988 as a historical gift.  Since that time, the house has been maintained through the efforts of the Canton Museum Board and the City of Canton.

The house is available for showers, small family reunions, receptions and other gatherings. To see available dates and pricing call 903-848-0675 or 903-802-5288.
