FISD girls attend technology workshop

Oct. 5, nine Fruitvale girls in grades four through seven traveled to Kilgore to attend the "Girls in Technology" workshop sponsored by Region VII Education Service Center.

The girls attended two learning sessions: the "MaKey MaKey" session and the "Sphero" Session.

During the "MaKey Makey" session students were introduced to "MaKey MaKey," a mini circuit board that can connect to a computer with a USB cord. "MaKey MaKey" allows a student to use alligator clips to complete a circuit by connecting objects to the board. Those objects can then be used to perform tasks as part of the computer. Students used clay connected to MaKey MaKey as piano keys. They used grapes as up, down, left and right arrow buttons to control directions on a video game. They even connected "MaKey MaKey" to pencil drawings to control games and beat drums.
