Billy Blanton Sr. 1950-2017

“The history of our grandparents is remembered not with rose petals…but in the laughter and tears of their children and their children’s children. It is unto us that the lives of the grandparents have gone. It is in us that their history becomes a future.”

Billy Dean Blanton Sr., also known as Billy Whiskers but most affectionately as Poppy to his grandchildren and Pop-Pop to youngest, Claire.

He was 67 years old and made his life in Canton. He passed away in Dallas on Dec. 11, 2017 surrounded by his wife and children.  He was born on July 7, 1950 to Wiley F. Blanton and Dorothy A. Burdette. Due to his own father’s untimely death, as an infant, he was raised by his “Daddy” Lawrence A. Young with siblings Lavada, Pete, Gus and Larry and Wiley.

Preston Mott 1935-2017

Funeral services for Preston “Curly” Mott, 81, of Terrell, were held Thursday, Dec. 21, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Mike Thomas, Mark Anderson, and Ed Waynick officiating. Interment followed at Union Grove Cemetery north of Wills Point.
He transitioned from his life and embraced the arms of Jesus at 7:28 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 17, 2017, at Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas.
He was born on Dec. 30, 1935 in Wills Point, the son of Albert Clinton Mott and Josie Teel Mott. He accepted the Lord into his life in 1951 and was a member of the Baptist Church.

He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1955, where he met his beloved, Mary. They married on Dec. 20, 1962. He retired from the United States Marine Corps in 1974. During his service, he served three tours in the Vietnam War.

He was a graduate from Henderson County Junior College where he received an Associates Degree in Accounting.

Jimmie Wilbourn 1930-2017

Funeral services for Jimmie Wilbourn, 87, of Wills Point, were held Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Rev. Andrew Cross and Mr. Russell Harris officiating. Interment followed at White Rose Cemetery in Wills Point. He passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 17, 2017, in Canton.
He was born June 29, 1930, in Wills Point, the son of Quitman A. Wilbourn and Mattie Vaudie Ezell Wilbourn.

He was raised in Wills Point and graduated from Wills Point High School in 1948. He was known for always being a hard worker.

He got his Social Security card when he was nine years old to start a paper route. He also worked as a soda jerk at Bruce and Humans and various other jobs to help his family during the Great Depression.

He was a veteran of the United States Air National Guard. On June 16, 1951, he married Anna Lois Granberry in Winona.

Jesse Goodwin 1923-2017

Funeral services for Jesse Clerman “J.C.” Goodwin, 94, of Wills Point, were held Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at Turner Baptist Church south of Wills Point with Rev. Fred Cooper and Rev. Jimmy Jones officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Springs Cemetery under the direction of Allan Fuller Funeral Home in Wills Point. He passed away early Thursday morning, Dec. 14, 2017, in Wills Point.
He was born Nov. 6, 1923, in Wills Point, the son of Jesse Claudice Goodwin and Hettie Matilda Phillips Goodwin. He was a lifelong resident of Wills Point and in 1941; he graduated from Wills Point High School.

He later attended Texas A&M University in Arlington. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, having served during W.W. II. During his service, he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star Medal.

Wilson LeGrand Wade

Wilson LeGrand Wade

1943-2017

A memorial celebration will be held at a later date for Wilson LeGrand Wade, 74, Canton. Mr. Wade passed away Nov. 20, 2017, in Canton.

He was born Oct. 18, 1943, in Graham. He had been a resident of Canton for 14 years, formerly living in Bowie. He graduated from Merkel High School in 1962, and attended Navarro College and Abilene Christian. He served in the Army Reserves and retired after a career in sales.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow Wilson Wade and Dorothy Wade; and brother, Danny Wade.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Linda N. Wade of Canton; three children, Allyson Wade Rhone (Joe) of Midland, Justin Wade (Laurie) of Flower Mound, and Chance Wade (Bonnie Gardner) of Bowie; four grandchildren, Charlie Rhone and Nancy Rhone of Midland, and Emily Wade and Gracie Wade of Flower Mound.

Services for Bobby Leb Butler, 72, of Grand Saline, were held Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Bartley Funeral Home with Todd Turner officiating. Interment followed in Creagleville Cemetery.

Mr. Butler passed away Nov. 25, 2017, in a Tyler hospice facility.  He was born Oct. 31, 1945 in Grand Saline.

Pauline Annie Faye Warren

Pauline Annie Faye Warren

Funeral services for Pauline Annie Faye Warren, 86, of Wills Point, were held, Saturday, Nov. 18, 2017, at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Reverend Jeremiah Hill officiating. Burial followed at Greenwood Cemetery in Wills Point. Services were under the direction of Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home.

Pauline Annie Faye Warren, affectionately known as Mama, Mother, Granny, GiGi, Auntie, Aunt Faye, Ms. Faye and Faye, was born Sept. 4, 1931. She was the youngest of six children.

 

This Is the Day the Lord Hath Made, Let Us Rejoice and Be Glad in It.

 

She joined Saint Mark Christian Methodist Episcopal Church many years ago as a child. She became a member of the Stewardess Board and the Missionary Society upon her return home in 1967.

Nolen Floyd Black

Nolen Floyd Black

1933-2017

Services for Nolen Floyd Black, 84, of Canton, were held Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Roberson officiating. 

Interment followed in Holly Springs Cemetery in Martins Mill. 

Mr. Black took his flight to heaven on Nov. 11, 2017, at Hospice Homeplace in Tyler.  He was born June 12, 1933, to Ruben Floyd Black and Alma Christine Lancaster in Martins Mill.  He attended Martins Mill High School and played on the basketball team that won the state championship in 1949.  He married his childhood sweetheart, Nelta Jean West (Nell), Nov. 10, 1951.  They celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary Nov. 10th, 2017.  The Blacks started their wonderful life together in Dallas. In 1984, they started their own business which still carries on today as North Star in Canton.
