Memorial services for Emma Jane Phillips, 91, of Athens, were held Sunday Oct. 8, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton.

Interment followed at Meredith Campground in Athens.

 Mrs. Phillips passed away Oct. 4, 2017.

She was born on Dec. 25, 1925, in Prairieville to Lee and Elsie Spainhour Williams.

She lived in the Walton Community for many years and was a member of China Grove Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling and gardening.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gilmon Dean Phillips; and sons, Danny Phillips, Johnny Phillips and William Lee Phillips.

Funeral services for Don Harrison Plumlee, 81, of Myrtle Springs, were held Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2017, at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point with Bro. Mike Stone and Bro. Brad LaFaver officiating. 

Interment followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Quinlan. Mr. Plumlee passed away Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Coppell to Weldon Harrison Plumlee and Zelma Faye Simmons Plumlee.  He was raised in Coppell where he attended public school.

He married Lola Neal Sept. 9, 1974. They were married 32 years until her death in 2007.

He retired in 1996 as a maintenance supervisor from Dallas County Bus Service.

Services for Brenden Kyle Hargis, 21, of Canton, were held Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Garvin Pulley officiating.

 Interment followed in Kreymer Cemetery in Wylie.

He passed away Oct. 6, 2017, in Canton.

He was born Aug. 28, 1996, in Athens to William Brian Boles and Donna Deann Marsh Boles.

He loved playing video games, Pokémon, watching movies, anime and listening to music.  He loved animals and had a good heart with a pure soul. His life was devoted to his wife, Deanna and son, Kyle. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Brian Boles; and his grandfather, Ronnie Boles.

Wilburn Wesson Anderson

Wilburn Wesson Anderson

1923-2017

Services for Wilburn Anderson were held Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Hilliard Funeral Home. 

A graveside service followed at Providence Cemetery, Van Zandt County.

Mr. Anderson passed away Oct. 1, 2017, in Tyler at age 93.

He was born Dec. 17, 1923, in Cooper.  He had been a resident of Grand Saline since 1980, formerly living in Grand Prairie and Dallas.  He served honorably in the army during the Battle of the Bulge.  He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star among many other awards.  He worked as a welder and was a member of Grace Baptist Church in Van.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thurman Andrew Anderson and Mamie C. Watkins Anderson; and three sisters, Jane Jones, Billie Parker and Bobbie Guffy.

Memorial services for Tommy Frank Cole, 90, Canton, were held Saturday, Oct. 7, 2017, at New Horizon Assembly of God in Grand Saline with Pastor Randy Fisher officiating. Mr. Cole passed away Saturday, Sept. 30 at his home in Canton.

He was a lifelong resident of the Canton area. He served proudly in the army in WWII. He was retired from Morton Salt Company.

He is preceded in death by parents, Dave R. and Georgia Russell; brother, Gene Russell; and grandchildren, Brandy Wilson and Bobby Joe Morman.

Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Rosemary Cole of Canton; sons, Thomas E. Cole, Bill D. and Jeannie Cole, Rockey C. and Vickie Cole, and Homer L. Cole, all of Canton; Daughter, Patty and husband, Rickey Netherland of Grand Saline; 11 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services for Irene Bailey Wells, 96, of Canton, were held Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel in Canton with Truman Oakley and Bro. Billy Smith officiating. 

 Interment followed in Haven of Memories.

Mrs. Wells passed away Sunday, Oct. 1, 2017, in Canton.  She was born June 14, 1921, to Robert and Lessie Gilliam Bailey. 

She was a member of the Corinth Missionary Baptist Church. She grew up in the Starr Community and was a proud graduate of Grand Saline High School. She was a homemaker and enjoyed travelling with her husband after he retired, gardening, spending time with her family and playing 42.

Mrs. Wells is preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, J.D. Wells; son-in-law, Truman Oakley Sr.; and her sister, Inez White.

Glenn Alfred Garner

Glenn Alfred Garner, 71, of Quinlan, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017 at his residence. Funeral services celebrating Glenn’s life were held Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at Ingram Funeral Home with Chaplain Richard Moore officiating. Masonic graveside service followed at Small Cemetery in Edgewood.

He was born on Jan. 1, 1946, in Edgewood to Wilborn Leon Garner and Erma Edwards Garner. He was raised and educated in Edgewood. Following his graduation from Edgewood High School he went to work at Raytheon, now L3, until his retirement in 2011.

He married Susan Garner and they made their home in Quinlan. He was a Master Mason and a member of Lodge #422 in Wills Point and belonged to the NRA. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, his dogs and being outside. He had fun playing the slot machines and his guitar. He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Services for Faye Wann Reeves, 98, of Myrtle Springs, were held Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel in Canton.  Interment followed in Myrtle Springs Cemetery. Mrs. Reeves passed away Friday, Sept. 29, 2017, in Grand Saline.

She was born Aug. 1, 1919, in Forreston to Ida Mary Shrader and Edward Calvin Wann. She grew up in Van Zandt County and was a member of Brookside Baptist Church.  She enjoyed helping her late husband, the Rev. W. A. Reeves, in his ministry at several Baptist churches.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Louis and Roy Wann; and two sisters, Elva Wilson and Pauline Waites.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Nancy Reeves of Midland; grandson, Jason E. Reeves of Green River, Wyo.; granddaughter, Rachelle Reeves of Rochester, Minn; and four great-grandchildren.

Services for Dorsey Mae Ballinger, 77, of Haslet, were held Thursday, Oct. 5, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton. She passed away Oct. 3, 2017, at her home.

 

She was born May 7, 1940, in Wright City, Okla. to Mable Frances Fox. She grew up in Idabel and moved to Dallas at a young age. She raised her children in Dallas before moving to Kaufman.

 

She enjoyed working in her garden and working as a vendor at First Monday Trade Days. She is preceded in death by her mother, and husband, J.W. Matthews.

 

She is survived by her sons, John Ballinger and wife, Elizabeth, David Ballinger and wife, Claudia, and Troy Ballinger; daughters, Mary Louise Ballinger, Linda and husband, Terry McKinney, Lynn and husband, Bob Griffin, Jackie and husband, Bill Willoughby; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marie Smithers.

Memorial services for Billy Dwight “Dood” Carver, 63, Grand Saline, were held Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at Bartley Funeral Home with Brol Homer Morgan officiating. Interment followed in Shields cemetery. He passed away Sept. 29, 2017, at his home in Grand Saline.

He was born July 9, 1954, in Garland to Herbert Hunter and Lois Marie Dollarhide Carver.  He spent most of his life in Dallas County before moving to Grand Saline 20 years ago. Mr. Carver is preceded in death by his father, Herbert Carver, and son, Billy Dwight Carver Jr.
