1949-2017

 

Larry Christopher Zapalac, 68, Canton, passed away on May 30, 2017 in Tyler.

He was born March 21, 1949 in Waco to Henry Zapalac and Johnnie Johnson Zapalac. He served as a US Marine during the Vietnam War, where he received a Purple Heart and other medals.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Rick Huston.

Survivors include his loving wife, Tina Zapalac of Canton; brother, Robin Zapalac and wife, Kathy; mother-in-law, Della Campbell; sister-in-law, Treva Riggs and husband, Steve; Mamie Childs and husband, Luther; nephews, Billy and Paul Penick; mother-in-law, Della Campbell; nieces, Rebekah Zapalac and Danielle Hull and husband, Michael; and various other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held June 10 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 507 East Elm St., Canton.

Worth, were held Friday, June 2, 2017 at Main Street Baptist Church with Kyle White and Johnny Knowlton officiating.  Interment will follow in Creagleville Cemetery.  He passed away May 26, 2017 in Ft. Worth.  He was born Sept. 19, 1993 in Sulphur Springs.

Services for Mrs. Joyce Stewart, 86, of Grand Saline, were held Tuesday, June 6, 2017, at Bartley Funeral Home with Bro. Mark Winskie officiating. Interment followed in Haven of Memories, Canton.

Mrs. Stewart passed away June 3, 2017, in Grand Saline.

She was born April 17, 1931, in Martins Mill to W.C. and Justine Palmer Douglas. She grew up in Van where she graduated from Van High School in 1949.  She married Floyd Stewart in 1951 and moved to Grand Saline.  She worked as a teacher's aide for GSISD and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.  She was a 1953 Charter member of the Grand Saline Athena Club and received her lifelong membership award in 2010.  She was a Cub Scout den mother and was active in all of her children's activities.

Funeral services for Sue Chaney Terpening, 85, of Van, were held Saturday, May 27, 2017, at Eubank Funeral Chapel in Canton with Bro. Mark Carter officiating.  Interment followed in Haven of Memories.

Mrs. Terpening passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017, in Canton.

She was born Jan. 20, 1932, to the late James Calvin and Nora Lee Ball Higdon.

She was a member of Colfax Baptist Church.  She was a giver to the community, a provider to the public and always willing to help others in need.

She is preceded in death by her husbands, Houston Chaney and Nolan Terpening; step-son, Dennis Chaney; and seven brothers and sisters.

Memorial services for Russell Louden, 94, Canton, will be held at a later date at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery. Mr. Louden passed away on May 26, 2017, at his home.

He was born Jan. 23, 1923, in St. Paul, Minn.to Russell Raymond Louden and Lois Hineman Louden. He served in the Army and was retired from Bell Helicopter where he worked as an engineer and manager. He recently received his 60 year Masonic Pin.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Florence and son, Dr. Russell Louden.

Survivors include his daughter, Sharon Carroll and husband, Ron of Canton; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
