Services for Earl McDermott, 96, of Fruitvale, were held Friday, March 24, 2017, at Main Street Baptist Church with Dr. Bruce Smilie officiating under the direction of Bartley Funeral Home.

Interment was in Woodside Cemetery.

Mr. McDermott passed away March 20, 2017, in Grand Saline. 

He was born May 22, 1920, in Maud to George and Beulah Green McDermott.

A graveside service was held at Millwood Cemetery in Lavon on Feb. 19, 2017.

Services for Betty June Clower, 84, of Grand Saline, were held Thursday, March 30, 2017 at Eubank Funeral Home with Bro. Randy Fisher officiating.

She passed away Saturday, March 25, 2017 in Terrell.

She was born Oct. 21, 1932 in Grand Saline to John Henry Fisher and Jettie Laurecy Daniels.

She grew up in Grand Saline and graduated from Grand Saline High School in 1948 at the age of 16. She married Elvis Clower Aug. 12, 1950 and they moved to Duncanville in 1960. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Duncanville for several years before retiring back to Grand Saline in 1978. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, cooking for her family, and traveling. The last fifteen years of her life was shared with Bob Fore and his children in Friendswood.

Memorial services for Barbara Gay Swann Harbord, 65, of Canton are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday April 8, 2017 at St. Justin Episcopal Church in Canton.

She passed away on March 5, 2017 in Tyler.

She was born on May 7, 1951 in Corpus Christi to Roy Gilbert Swann and Norma Alice Morrison Swann.

She was a retired LVN spending most of her career at the Nursing Homes in Canton.  She was active with her church and the local food bank.

She had a personality that would brighten any room, and was happiest when surrounded by people.  She always had gifts to surprise others wherever she went. 

Words cannot convey how much she will be missed. 

She is preceded in death by her father Roy Swann and her brother Thad Swann.

Services for B.W. Ward, 86, of Canton, were held March 29, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Canton with Pastor Mike Roberson officiating under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home. 

Interment was in Haven of Memories.

He passed away Sunday, March 26, 2017, in Canton. 

 He was born Sept. 24, 1930 in the China Grove Community to Walter E. and Ora Belle Morris Ward. 

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton for over 50 years and a 50 year member of the Blue Lodge and Scottish Rite.

Funeral services for Athene Iona Martin, 89, of Athens, formerly of Edgewood, were held Saturday, March 18, 2017, at Hiett’s LyBrand Funeral Home in Edgewood. Burial followed at Small Cemetery.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1928, in Lampassas to parents, Archie Campbell and Leona Kendall Campbell. She was raised in the Morince Community of Edgewood, where she attended school. She married Jack Cordell Martin and they made their home in Edgewood. She was a homemaker, raising their two children. She was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed quilting, gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Archie and Leona Campbell; brothers, Harvey Campbell and Odie Dean Campbell and a sister, Inez Morris.

She passed away March 24, 2017, at her home in Grand Saline.  She was born Sept. 18, 1938 in Grand Saline.

Amalee Grady Kibbey, 88, was born  Jan. 28, 1929 in Danville, Ark. and joined her beloved husband “Buddy” in the Kingdom of Heaven on March 24, 2017.

She was fondly known by many names to her friends and family as Mama Kibbey, Pooch, Aunt Amalee, Mi Mi and Mom.

She and C.M. Kibbey were married in 1948 and lived most of their married life in Irving followed by a few retirement years residing in Van and Celina until his death in March 2013. 

She worked many years for Abbott Laboratories but she would say her proudest accomplishment was raising her four girls.  She was honest, devoted and stubborn in her beliefs, and would tell you what she thought, usually with a smile followed by, “I love you.”

Velma Lee Williams, 78, of Canton passed away Sunday, March 19, 2017, in Tyler.  She was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Dallas to William Henry and Martha Lee Rogers Brooks. 

She was one of the most generous people you would ever meet. She started dating Chester while they were in high school, which blossomed into a relationship that lasted over 60 years.  They were married in July, 1963.  She enjoyed keeping children while their parents worked, and shopping, especially for purses and shoes.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Martha Brooks.
