Final Van Vandal football statistics for 2013 season released by coaches

Van Vandal football coaches recently released the final team and individual statistics for the 2013 varsity season.
The Vandals concluded their 2013 campaign with an overall record of 4-7 including a second place finish in District 15-3A with a 4-1 mark and a trip to the Class 3-A bidistrict playoffs.
Offensively, the Vandals finished the season with an average of 28.9 points per game and total yardage averaging 404.8 yards per game.
The Vandals had an average of 168.6 yards passing per game and 236.2 yards rushing per game for a rushing total of 2,598 yards. Van had 29 rushing touchdowns.
Van averaged 22 passing attempts per contest and completed 12.5 passes per game for a completion percentage of 57.
The Vandals had 16 passing touchdowns and five pass interceptions.
Penalty yardage totaled 70.7 yards per game for the Vandals as they were flagged for 84 penalties.
Defensively, the Vandals allowed 26.5 points per game and allowed 361.5 yards per contest.
The Vandals gave up 133.5 yards passing per game and 228 yards rushing per game in 2013. Van’s defense intercepted six passes.
Van forced 13 fumbles and registered 21 quarterback sacks while making 987 tackles.
On special teams, Van punted 33 times for an average of 37.1 yards per punt. Josef Ruiz made three out of five field goals including a 40-yard field goal along with converting 36 out of 41 extra points.
Other individual statistics featured running back Matt Savis as he finished with 1,901 yards rushing on 290 attempts and 20 touchdowns for an average of 172.8 yards per game and a per carry average of 6.6 yards per carry.
Luke McGowan led the Vandal receivers with 44 receptions for 535 yards and four touchdowns as he averaged 12.2 yards per reception.
Layton Myers caught 39 passes for 640 yards and nine touchdowns as he averaged 16.4 yards per catch.
Kendrick Jones had 29 receptions for 421 yards and one touchdown as he averaged 14.5 yards per reception.
Savis caught 15 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns as he averaged 9.7 yards per catch.
McGowan punted 32 times for a 36.6 yards average.
Defensively, Hunter Redmond led the Vandals in tackles with 145 followed by Brice Borgeson with 116, Colton Hayes with 112 and Brock Moore with 111.
In tackles for losses, Borgeson led with 18 followed by Redmond and Hayes with 15 each and Moore with 11.
Eric Lemus led the Vandal defense in pass breakups with nine followed by Brett Doring with five.
