The Lady Tigers got a seventh inning win over Mabank, 7-6, as the team prepares for district play.Wills Point and Mabank were tied, 6-6, going into the top of the seventh, when Brhett Pierce led the inning off with a walk. Macy Mosley bunted Pierce over to second base, and Leslie Wright came up with the game-winning hit.
“We’ve started hitting the ball really well, and we’re playing good defense,” said head coach Rheagan Penn. “For the past two weeks, we’ve been hitting really well. Hailey Berndt and Leslie Wright in particular have been stroking the ball.”
The Lady Tigers face a tough district schedule, with perennial power Van and a Canton team that graduated one senior last year.
“We’re a really young team,” Penn said. “We have one senior this year, and a lot of sophomores.”
Jordan Veeser is the lone senior for the Lady Tigers this year, and there are three juniors – Macy Mosley, Hailey Berndt, and Audra Padilla.
Wills Point was scheduled to meet Kemp on Friday before starting the district play against Van at home on Tuesday, March 13. The team will then have three consecutive road games, beginning in Canton on March 16.
