Charles Washmon

Services for Charles Windol Washmon, 77, Tyler, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Marcy 16, at Hilliard Funeral Home Chapel, Van, with Pastor Ward Livingston officiating.

Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery.

Mr. Washmon died March 14, 2007, in Tyler.

He was born March 7, 1930, in Grand Saline to Charlie Franklin and Ollie Mae Dyess Washmon. He graduated from Grand Saline High School in 1946, and served in the U.S. Army as a supply sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He also had a tour of duty in Guam. He was a member of the Army basketball team. He owned and operated the Western Auto store in Grand Saline. He was instrumental in starting the Grand Saline Salt Festival. He moved to Tyler in 1960 and began a 50-year career in the oil and gas industry as an independent landman. He lived and worked for a time in Canton, Galveston, Van and Kilgore, moving back to Tyler in 2000, retiring in 2005. He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Dolores "Dee" Washmon.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia Washmon, Tyler; son and daughter-in-law, Charles Robert "Bob" and Debbie Washmon, Tyler; daughters and sons-in-law, Cheree Dianne and Steve Rule, San Clemente, Calif., and Cindy Belinda and Michael Porterfield, El Lago; stepdaughter, Kim Maddox, and husband Tim, Tyler; stepsons, Lex Kidd, and wife Holly, and Trant Kidd, all of Tyler; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Bobby Washmon, Fort Worth; sister, Jo Ann Flowers, Kennedale; grandchildren, Emily Mills, Amy Freeman, Wade Washmon, Houston Porterfield, Austin Porterfield, Tyler Porterfield, Courtney Rule and Whitney Rule; great-grandchildren, Hattie Ree Mills, Lucy Mae Mills and Robert Walker Freeman; and other relatives.

Pallbearers include Houston Porterfield, Austin Porterfield, Tyler Porterfield, Wade Washmon, Michael Freeman and Brett Mills.
