Services for R.P. Campbell, 79, Mt. Vernon, formerly of Wills Point, were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Providence Baptist Church.
Burial was in Providence Cemetery.
Mr. Campbell died June 8, 2008, at his residence.
He was born September 2, 1928 in Wills Point to Rev. Raymond P. and LeeVena Campbell. He graduated from Texas A&M-Commerce with a BA degree in 1953 and a master’s degree in 1957. His teaching career began in Ennis ISD in 1954, serving in many areas of the district until 1962. He was associated with Arlington ISD for 12 years, serving in several capacities, including coordinator of distributive education. He served as assistant director of education service center in Fort Worth, and was appointed executive director of education service center, retiring after 27 years of service. The board of directors voted to name a new building in his honor, the R.P. Campbell Jr. Service Center.
He received many awards, including the Distinguished Service Award presented by Phi Delta Kappa East Texas University Chapter 1982. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Arlington, where he resided for many years. He was a life member of the Valley of Dallas Orient of Texas, Scottish Rite of Free Masonry.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Ruth Anderson Campbell; sisters and brothers-in-law, Geraldine and Donald Knapp, Grand Prairie, and Kathleen and Gerald Spencer, Duncanville; and two nieces.
