GRAND SALINE—Alcohol is believed the cause of a single vehicle crash on US Highway 80 early Wednesday morning which claimed the life of a Grand Saline man.
Department of Public Safety Sergeant Jeff Wimberly said Jason Lee Harris, 32, died while traveling on US Highway 80 west of Grand Saline, east of Fruitvale in a 2002 PT Cruiser.
“Alcohol was present in the form of beer, in and around the vehicle,” Wimberly said following an investigation late Wednesday morning.
Harris did not have passengers, and was not wearing a seatbelt.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by Precinct 1 Justice of the Peace Donald Kirkpatrick.
“He (Harris) was westbound on US 80 and failed to drive in a single lane. He left the roadway to the right, struck a driveway and became airborne for 100 feet and was ejected from the vehicle,” Wimberly said.
The accident was investigated by DPS troopers Matthew Skinner, Odie Phillips and Wimberly.
