MYTLE SPRINGS—An 18-wheeler carrying sand overturned on Interstate 20 at the 520 mile marker at around 11 a.m., Tuesday causing traffic to be diverted down State Highway 64 and US Highway 80 through Wills Point.

Department of Public Safety Trooper Matthew Skinner said the truck’s breaks locked up while he was traveling westbound in the inside lane, "He then jack-knifed and flipped, and the truck came to rest in the median."

The driver, Quincy Forney, 28, Tyler, was wearing a seatbelt and received non-life threatening injuries. He was transported by Wills Point ambulance to Presbyterian Hospital in Terrell.

Forney had no passengers in the vehicle.

"Witnesses said it started pouring and he locked his breaks," Skinner said.

The Texas Department of Transportation was notified and the westbound side of the interstate was shut down to traffic for several hours due to the sand and diesel fuel spill.

Quincy was charged with unsafe speed.

Skinner was assisted in the accident investigation by troopers Odie Phillips and Jason Matura.
