New Calculation Pulls Graduate Up
As of Tuesday afternoon Wills Point senior David Holloway officially moved into the second spot of GPA rankings when the final totals were calculated according to school officials.
"Our local policy is that rankings and GPA’s are calculated on the grades that go in as of the 15th week of the spring semester," explained high school principal Jim Lamb.
"With our new schedule, there were three more weeks of school. We knew there was going to be some shuffling of rankings, and we even told the students that would happen when some of those final tests were taken.
"In fact it happens to some extent every year."
A change at the top of the rankings has not happened to Lamb’s recollection, however, and the change will affect Omeika Green’s standing as salutatorian.
"The policy is that we use the grades as of the 15th week of the spring semester for those rankings, and she was the salutatorian at that point."
Holloway, who had been listed as a high honors graduate, finished with a 4.493 GPA, behind Jessica Phillips’ 4.505.
