Wills Point Tigers Set To Defend Title

Randal Brewer, Sports Editor

The two-time defending district champ Wills Point Tigers will have their hands full trying to make it three. The effort begins tonight as the Tigers host the Royce City Bulldogs.

"The first game is really big," said head coach Ed Glendening. "I think Royce City is the best team in the district. We get them at home to open district, and a win would be huge."

As luck, or a lack of it, would have it, the Tigers face the top three teams in the first three games.

"Royce City is probably a playoff team. Commerce is next on the schedule, and they are very athletic, and then Community is returning a lot of players from last year.

"We could finish first, or we could finish fourth," the coach continued. "There is a lot of upside with our team."

The problem with upside though, is that it usually means there is a lot of room for improvement.

"I like our chances, but we are so young," Glendening explained. "Our biggest challenge is to play 32 minutes of consistent basketball."

Freshmen boys are scheduled to tip off at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, followed by the JV and the varsity at approximately 7:30. After hosting Commerce next Tuesday night, the Tigers return home to play Community next Friday.
