After winning the first two district games by a combined score of 26-1, the Lady Tigers were held in check at Royse City and won by a mere 7-0 margin.

Ranked number seven in the Texas Association of Girls Coaches poll, the Wills Point softball team opened district over spring break with an 11-1 win over Quinlan in five innings.

Shelby Perry moved her record to 7-0 with the win, striking out 10. Quinlan’s only run came in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Amanda Peiser. By that time, the Lady Tigers had already built a 4-0 lead, and added five more to that in the bottom of the fourth.

Perry was 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, and Taylor Parker was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Jana Deen and Brooke Jones each had a pair of hits.

An error-filled first inning by the Rains Lady Wildcats, couple with sharp hitting by the Lady Tigers, led to a 14-0 lead after one inning.

Taylor Austin pitched a no-hitter by facing the minimum of nine batters in the three-inning win. Austin struck out five.

Meeting the only other undefeated district team in Royse City on Tuesday night, Austin picked up her ninth win of the season as well as hitting 3-of-5 with three doubles.

It took a while for the Wills Point bats to get warmed up, as they held a bare 2-0 lead going into the fourth. Jana Deen hit a solo homerun to make it 3-0, though, and the Lady Tigers added another run in that inning, and three more in the seventh.

Deen added three walks at the plate, and Brooke Jones was 2-ofr-5 with a double and an RBI. Alex Smith helped the defensive effort, shooting down two base runners trying to steal third.

Wills Point visits Commerce on (Friday). The team hosts Community on Tuesday, April 1.
