A directors election was ordered Thursday night by the Combined Consumers Special Utility District Board of Directors.

The terms of directors Ward Guffey and Andy Yates are to be filled.

Yates announced, "I plan to stand for reelection for my position." Guffey later notied The Quinlan-Tawakoni News that he also planned to run for another term.

The election will be held May 10. Candidate filing closed Monday.

Guffey who also serves as vice president was appointed in May 2006 to fill the unexpired term of Rick Little.

Yates was elected in May 2005.

The terms of directors Don Madden and Carl Sampson will expire in May 2009. The term of President Wayne Johnson will expire in May 2010.

Other business

• In his report to the board, General Manager Heath McGee said the Hawk Cove project was 60 percent complete. He said workers were testing water lines that had been installed and were switching customers over to the new lines.

He expected completion of the Hawk Cove project within six months.

• McGee said the new water tower had been placed into service.

"For the past month, we have put forth a combination of efforts in filling our Crestview Water Tower," he said. "To use the treatment plant we have to raise the pressure up to 95 pounds per square inch. This amount of pressure will overload our system. A short term fix may be considered — place regulators on all of the water lines that are incapable of sustaining the pressure produced. Lay a new water line to the tower from the treatment plant."

He said, "Currently, we can operate the tower at half of the tower’s capacity. Please keep in mind, these options will allow the treatment plant to fill the tower and allow the tower to be utilized to its full capacity level."

• The directors voted to pass on an offer to acquire the Holiday Estates water system.

• McGee also reported that inclement weather had damaged the treatment plant flow meter and chlorine analyzer. He said he had submitted a claim to Texas Municipal League in the amount of $6,000 to cover the damaged items.

• The general manager said as of Feb. 4, $20,000 in funds had been transferred to the capital improvements account with TexSTAR. He said the process would continue throughout the year to meet his initial goal of $240,000 by the end of the year.

• McGee discussed a new billing system that would reduce the $10,700 annual expense for leased equipment and supplies. He said a one-time $6,000 cost would eliminate $5,300 of the annual expense for leased equipment.
