Area volunteer firefighters battled a home blaze Saturday around 3:30 p.m. at 10737 Lakeside Drive in the Mountain View Club Estates off FM 429.
Three fire engines, three combination engines, three water tankers and four boosters or grass attack trucks responded to the scene. The first Tawakoni South Volunteer Fire Department unit reported seeing a thick column of black smoke from the area of FM 751 and FM 429.
That unit requested the mutual aid and assistance of the Quinlan, West Tawakoni, Cash, Able Springs, Terrell and Kaufman County volunteer fire departments.
The American Red Cross was called to the scene to provide rehabilitation for the firefighters. The Tawakoni South Volunteer Fire Department set up a command post and coordinated the rotation of water tankers and controlled the advancing waves of firefighters.
However, the intervention of seven fire departments could not save the home from total destruction. All units reported clear of the scene at 6:38 p.m.. Two fire departments responded to the report of a rekindle Sunday morning.
