The annual Van Oil Festival is coming up next Saturday, Oct. 13, in downtown Van.
This Saturday, the Van Oil Queen Pageant will be held in the Van Junior High cafetorium starting at 10 a.m.
This year’s theme for the Van Oil Festival will be “Oil Boom to Business Boom.”
The 2012 Van Oil Queen Pageant will include a special musical performance by Caitlyn Brette immediately after the talent portion of the pageant, which starts at 1 p.m.
The crowning of the various category winners will begin at about 3 p.m.
Categories include: Baby Miss (0-6 months), Little Miss (12—23 months), Dainty Miss (2-3 years), Cinderella Miss (4-5 years), Princess Miss (6-7 years), Young Miss (8 years), Imperial Miss (9-10 years), Jr. Miss (11-12 years), Teen Miss (13-15 years) and Oil Queen (16-19 years).
All contestants must be a resident and/or student of Van Zandt County schools. Oil Queen contestants must be a student in Van ISD. Age is to be determined by the date of the pageant.
Parade will start festival
The Van Oil Festival on Oct. 13 will begin with a parade through downtown Van at 10 a.m.
Festival spokesperson Pat Valentine said Main Street between the downtown traffic light and Walnut Street will be closed to traffic during the festival.
“Parking will be available in the two church lots (First Baptist Church and United Methodist Church) and all the side streets,” she said.
Vendors will be at the festival and will begin setting up at 7:30 a.m. along the sides of the closed area.
The event will include a parade, vendors, clown, antique cars, bounce house, live entertainment, dunking booth, penny scramble, antique tractors at the Farmhouse and many other attractions.
Van Community Ministries Food Pantry will be hosting a pancake breakfast at the Van United Methodist Church fellowship hall from 7:30-9 a.m.
The price of the breakfast for adults is $6 each. Children 10 and under can have breakfast for $4 each.
