Varsity wins two during busy week

The Van Vandals spent plenty of time on the court last weekend, playing five games during one of their busiest stretches of the season.
On Dec. 10, the Vandals hit the road to take on Martins Mill. The Mustangs, state ranked in the 1A state poll, topped Van 63-38. The Vandals got 11 points from Layton Myers.
The Vandals returned to action at the Great East Texas Shootout in Brownsboro from Dec. 12-14, finishing 2-2 in tournament play.
The Vandals recorded wins over the Brownsboro JV and TK Gorman squads, and posted losses against Brownsboro and Crandall.
Carson Rucker and Nick Wilkerson finished as the leading scorers against the Brownsboro JV team, with Rucker recording 16 points and Wilkerson contributing 10.
Against the Crandall Pirates, Rucker scored 13 points and Layton Myers scored 12 points.
The Vandals got big offensive efforts against TK Gorman, with Layton Myers scoring 20 points and Carson Rucker adding 18 points in a Van win.
Brock Moore finished as the team’s leading scorer against the Brownsboro Bears, contributing 12 points.
The Vandals, currently 7-6 on the season, were scheduled to host Rusk on Friday before returning to action after the Christmas break at the TJC Wagstaff Classic on Dec. 26-28.
