Students across Van Zandt County joined millions of others around the world on Sept. 28 by participating in See You at the Pole, a global day of student prayer that annually takes place on the fourth Wednesday in September. According to www.syatp.com, “See You at the Pole began in 1990 as a grass roots movement with ten students praying at their school. Twenty years later, millions pray on their campuses on the fourth Wednesday in September. See You at the Pole is simply a prayer rally where students meet at the school flagpole before school to lift up their friends, families, teachers, school, and nation to God. See You at the Pole is a student-initiated, student-organized, and student-led event.”

sports@vanzandtnews.com The annual Rains High School Invitational Cross Country Meet carried with it a distinct Van Zandt County flair with five local school districts, Canton, Edgewood, Martins Mill, Van and Wills Point, all sending individuals or teams to compete.

An exciting 2022 football season was scheduled to get even more intense this week with several local teams scheduled to renew their respective rivalries. After years of separation brought about by the UIL’s redistricting decisions, the Edgewood Bulldogs were scheduled to once again lock horns with the Grand Saline Indians.

The Van Zandt County Veterans Memorial hosted its largest fundraising event of the year Sept. 13, welcoming golfers from across the area to Van Zandt Country Club for the 9th annual VZ Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament.

Van ISD Director of Curriculum and Accountability Karla Rainey shared changes in the STAAR testing program for this school year during the regular monthly meeting of the Van School Board Sept. 19.

Over 700 fourth grade students representing every school district in Van Zandt County were in attendance Sept. 27 and 28 at the VZC Fairgrounds in Canton for the annual ‘Ag in the Classroom’ event, sponsored by the VZC Farm Bureau.
